Synergine Ltd/Vukisch & Borich, Auckland 2010
The Crown Lynn precinct, developed by Studio Pacific in association with Syergine Group Limited and Architectus, is a proposed 17-hectare mixed-use community in one of Auckland City’s key transport and growth corridors, within 250 metres of the New Lynn town centre and railway station.
The design connects to and complements the existing town centre, while also providing an exemplary new housing precinct and neighbourhood hub that addresses New Lynn’s likely urban expansion.
The masterplan is organised around a proposed tree-lined boulevard, which provides the key connection from the existing New Lynn town centre through the precinct to the existing residential neighbourhood beyond. Another central element is the proposed New Lynn Park, which will comprise a playground and kiosks, with landscaping stepping down to the feature rainwater pond on the southern edge of the park. The park will provide a vibrant recreational and social heart for the precinct and the wider New Lynn community and will represent a primary location for community and cultural events.
The precinct will contain 800 house types, varying from terrace houses to work-live apartments, and 10,000m2 non-residential use land centred primarily around the park. The precinct is further organised into four distinct quarters. The diversity of the different quarters and the different housing types will be accentuated by varied use of colour, material and landscape to reinforce a sense of place.
