Glenbrae Kids Early Learning Centre

Story of a Journey

Our clients wanted to achieve a playground that represented the past and present cultures that the children have grown up with, and perhaps left, when moving to New Zealand. It was to embrace Maori and Pacific themes and tell the story of the journey the children and their ancestors have taken to be where they are today. With this in mind, we looked at migratory animals, traditional transport and elements within nature that illustrate movement or a passing of time.

The finished playground takes influences from numerous Pacific cultures with wharenuis and a shared fale, a winding river bed that stems from an overflowing volcano, past a waka and into a sandpit. In the sandpit there’s a whale breaching the surface, its tail a table for kids to play on, its blowhole another water source for play.

We’re very happy with how Gleanbrae Kids turned out and we hope that the children feel at home and excited about their new environment.
