Brendan Rawson B Arch, FNZIA, NZCD Arch
The work the office is involved in at the moment is quite varied and consists of Local Authority and residential projects with some recreational & sports projects. My work, as at December 2013 has mainly involved the existing Aotea Centre foyer refurbishment work to compliment the ASB Theatre Refurbishment (2012), plus a mix of residential and other local authority work.
Birkenhead Library which I completed in 2009 has won numerous awards at both National and Local levels as well as some others such as Timber Design, DINZ, Property Council and WANZ. The local community love their Library and our office is proud of the result.
I have a strong interest in Architecture and design in New Zealand and have travelled extensively both locally and internationally - the last trip as part of the NZIA design series to present the Birkenhead library in all the main centers in NZ. I am a visiting critic at Auckland School of Architecture and Unitec School of Architecture. I am an Assessor with the Registered Architects Board.
I am interested in the result that can be designed by the relationship of architecture to its site in the New Zealand climate and how to engage fully with issues of tactility, form, material detailing, and special relationships related to a client’s brief so that the brief is extended and fulfilled.
